About this course

The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) is a regulated, full paediatric first aid qualification delivered over two days. It has been specifically designed to meet the paediatric first aid criteria set out within the Department for Education’s Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework.

The course is suitable for early years professionals, registered childminders and others who are responsible for the care and safety of infants and children.

What You Will Learn

Over the two-day course, learners develop the skills and knowledge needed to manage a wide range of paediatric emergencies.

  • Assessing an emergency situation safely
  • Protecting the infant, child, first aider and bystanders

  • Opening and maintaining the airway

  • Performing infant CPR

  • Using an automated external defibrillator appropriately
  • Managing choking in infants and children
  • Recognising and managing anaphylaxis
  • Responding to asthma attacks
  • Recognising meningitis

  • Recognising and responding to shock
  • Controlling external bleeding
  • Managing wounds and minor injuries
  • Responding to burns and scalds
  • Managing suspected fractures
  • Responding to head injuries

Course Format

The qualification is delivered over two days and combines classroom teaching with extensive practical training.

Assessment

Learners are assessed through seven practical assessments and two multiple-choice theory assessments.

Certification

Successful learners receive a personalised Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) e-certificate after their results have been submitted and approved.
